Sabeen Mahmud

IN the article ‘Young sitarist enthrals audience at T2F’, (March 26), Zaheer Kidvai was referred to as the founder of T2F in tandem with Sabeen Mahmud, who was named his “protégé”. M. Shahid, the author of the article, referred to Ms Mahmud as “a brave young girl.”

It is a pity that Mr Shahid could not get the basic facts correct, and that he has to turn Ms Mahmud into a juvenile, junior character in her own life story. T2F was the brainchild solely of Ms Mahmud. By the time she lost her life in a tragic assassination in April, 2015, she was no “young girl,” but a strong and powerful adult who led by example and mentored hundreds of others in her role as T2F’s founder and director. After her death, it was the entire T2F community that pulled together and saw the cafe through its darkest times.

Sabeen’s friends and supporters would appreciate this clarification being made unreservedly on the pages of this publication.
