IPC ministry asks PM for cash prizes

ISLAMABAD: Endorsing Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) recommendations, the ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) decided to ask prime minister office for cash prize award for the Davis Cup winning team for defeating South Korea in February this year.

An official of the ministry told Dawn on Tuesday, that now, it has been decided that Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan will get Rs 2million each, while other team members and non-playing captain and manager will get Rs 500,000 each.

In the previous summary of the IPC ministry, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had recommended pride of performance for both seasoned Aisam and Aqeel to be decorated on March 23, and cash prize Rs 500,000 each for the remaining three members of team, non-playing captain and for manager.

However, after prime minister’s approval, later on it was transpired that both seasoned players had already been decorated with civic awards.

“On the recommendations of Pakistan Tennis Federation, in previous summary we had proposed cash award for all players, but PM office approved civil awards for Aisam and Aqeel,” said PSB spokesman Azam Dar.
