Four policemen remanded in kidnap case

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Kamalia city police on Thursday took into custody Rajana police station’s Uggi post in-charge Sub-Inspector Zaman Mohsin Cheema and three constables in a kidnap-for-ransom case.

The suspects appeared before a police investigation team to record their statements in the Kamalia city police station.

An official said the suspects were later produced before a judicial magistrate who issued their 14-day judicial remand and they were shifted to the district jail.

The Kamalia city police had registered a case on Thursday under sections 365 of PPC and 155 C of Police Order against the four policemen and their five accomplices on the complaint of Muhammad Mohsin.

Mr Mohsin said Mohsin Cheema, along with constables Akhtar Rasool, Umair Butt and Naubahar and five other people who introduced themselves as officials of the Counter-Terrorism Department, raided his house five days ago and detained him at a torture cell after whisking him away.

He alleged that they tortured him and demanded Rs200,000 for his release. They threatened him that they would implicate him in a terrorism case, he said. He said when three accomplices of SI Cheema visited his house for collection of money from his father Asghar Ali (a retired policeman), he called 15 emergency police and had the suspects arrested.
