10 injured in grenade attack at D.I. Khan cultural festival

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Ten people, among them two security personnel, were injured when unidentified people hurled a hand grenade on the stage during a cultural festival in the Sikandar Janoobi area, 35km off here, on Saturday.

The police and FC men cordoned off the area after the incident and started a search operation to track down the attackers.

According to an official statement, the festival was to be held in the open and police had advised the organisers not to hold it due to a fragile security situation in the area. It claimed that the organisers had taken the responsibility of providing security to the people.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Waqas, Samiullah Sadozai, Khyal Mohammad, Rana Saleem, Malik Saifullah, Roshan Zameer Leghari, Azmat Khan and Yameen Khan. Names of the two injured personnel of Frontier Constabulary could not be ascertained.

The injured people were taken to the Parova hospital before being shifted to the district headquarters hospital. Condition of four of the victims was said to be precarious.

Police registered a case and started investigation.
