Usman Peerzada, the arrogant Nawab Waqar Ahmed, is in a grim financial state. The serial also introduces Meera’s pretty and talented sister Shaista Abbas as the Nawab’s granddaughter Durre Adan.

Brought up in a stifling, conservative setting, Durre Adan wants something more out of her life and confides in her phuppo (paternal aunt) Zebunnisa (Sana Fakhar) about her dreams and aspirations.

While preparations are being made for the Nawab’s eldest daughter’s arrival from the US, an old servant, who has done well in life and educated his son (Shehroze Sabzwari), visits him leading to all sorts of complications.

Directed by Barkat Siddiqui and written by Samra Bukhari, this looks like an engaging romantic story.

Khaani | Geo TV, Mondays 8.00pm

A year after Sarym’s tragic death, wedding festivities are underway as Khaani (Sana Javed) has accepted Arham’s (Muhammed Ali) proposal. Mir Shah puts his foot down, declaring that there is no place in their house for Khaani, but obsessive Hadi is determined to bring her home after his friend confirms Khaani’s whereabouts.

While news updates about Sarym’s death still manage to disturb the family, Hadi strolls into the big, fat wedding surprisingly unnoticed by wearing a cap. Decked up in all her bridal finery, Khaani looks at herself in the mirror only to see him standing calmly behind her. Director Anjum Shehzad and writer Asma Nabeel have us biting our nails as the story takes yet another unexpected twist.

What to watch out for (Or Not)

De Ijazat | Hum TV, Mon-Tues 9.10pm

If only Shahwaiz’s (Mikaal Zulfiqar) parents would sit down and discuss crucial issues about their son’s marriage instead of anything else.

Also, Ayesha Sana, who plays a fashion designer, needs to dress down when the scene shows her in the middle of the night. And the situations regarding a brain tumour

and terminal cancer shouldn’t come across as implausible and laughable.

Mikaal Zulfiqar and Zarnish Khan, who make a beautiful lead pair, are pretty much wasted in a story that is fast losing grip because of poor direction.
