Conference discusses governance and management

LAHORE: Participants in a two-day conference have said the use of modern technology, power devolution and efficient resource distribution can improve government and management.

The conference on ‘Governance, Management & HR: Strategic Directions’ concluded on Wednesday.

Belgium KU Leuven Public Governance Institute’s Prof Geert Bouckaert and University of Houston’s Prof Dr. Zafar Iqbal Jadoon talked about public management while Turkey Selcuk University’s Prof Dr Nezir Akyesilmen spoke on cyber security and how governance was being affected by it.

The panel discussion on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor identified the areas in Punjab which required more attention.

Dr Nadeemul Haque discussed that how formulating policies in a systematic way could strengthen the local economy.

Dr Ijaz talked about the significance of Pakistan’s location on the world map and how both federal and provincial governments were realizing and developing strategies to make the most out of CPEC.

Dr Shahid highlighted the major opportunities arising from CPEC and how the economy, with regards to employment, special economic zones, power generation and trade liberalization was expected to grow.

Dr Mumtaz Anwar said the conference aimed at exchanging innovative ideas that would collectively improve the quality of upcoming research in Pakistan.

He said the government was taking initiatives towards public service delivery including information technology to enhance public sector governance.
