DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Taunsa police foiled an attempt to take away an ambulance of Rescue 1122 by a resident of Balochistan on Wednesday.

The driver was filling air in the tyres of the vehicle near Mangrotha Mor when a gunman, later identified as Muhammad Khan, of Balochistan’s Kohlu district, snatched the ambulance and drove it away.

Soon the police started chasing the gunman but near Chowkiwala, the ambulance crashed into a truck and was pulled over.

In the accident, the accused remained safe.

Taunsa Saddar Station House Officer Safdar said they had arrested the accused.

PROTEST: A large number of students of the Ghazi University staged a rally and blocked the main city road demanding the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor of the university. The university has been running without a VC since its establishment in 2012.

Students boycotted the classes and first held a demonstration on the premises of the university then walked out of the campus to the city area.

One of the protesters, Tahir Buzdar, said the Punjab government was not paying attention to the problems of the Ghazi University. He said the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, vice-chancellor had additional charge of the Ghazi University.

Another protester said the university lacked its own infrastructure and building and its classes were being held in the building of the Government Post-Graduate College. He said several PhD teachers had left the university due to the non-provision of facilities.
