Education officers start sit-in outside assembly

PESHAWAR: The officers of education department’s management cadre from across the province on Monday kicked off a sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to seek upgradation.

Hundreds of the management cadre officers of the department have been on a pen-down strike for over a week now, protesting lack of upgradation, and bringing the official business to a standstill in the district, sub and circle offices.

The protesters held banners with slogans in favour of their single demand at the sit-in. They also displayed banners.

Earlier, the education officers coming from across the province gathered at the Government Higher Secondary Hasnain Shaheed School No 1, wherefrom they took out a procession marching on different roads.

“We will continue the sit-in outside the assembly building for a week,” said Mohammad Salim, chairman of the management cadre association, while talking to Dawn. He said if their demand for upgradation was not met then they would devise the next line of action. He said the chief minister had already approved the summary for their upgradation but the finance department had raised objections to it.

“The provincial bureaucracy has approved a hefty amount in the name executive allowance for itself but is creating hurdles in our upgradation,” he said.
