Chishtian municipality workers protest against DSP

BAHAWALNAGAR: Chishtian Tehsil Municipal Committee (TMC) staffers went on strike for an indefinite period against police for registering cases against the TMC chairman and staffers on Monday.

They also staged a protest demonstration on Baldia Road against the police highhandedness where TMC chairman Abdul Razaq Ramay said their strike would continue till the suspension of the Chishtian deputy superintendent of police.

Scores of reporters also protested outside the Chishtian Press Club against the police for manhandling two reporters who were covering the attack on TMC employees during an anti-encroachment drive. They wore black armbands and demanded action against the Chishtian DSP.

Bahawalnagar District Police Officer Attaur Rahman told Dawn the Superintendent of Police Saleem Niazi was looking into the matter.

The strike by the TMC employees created problems for the residents as they could not get potable water. Similarly, there was no one to remove the garbage from residential areas.
