Money Market: Bank borrowing falls

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended March 2, 2018 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,052.497bn after a 1.00pc increase over the preceding week’s figure of Rs11,933.267bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,797.739bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 11.62pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs11965.586bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs11,843.862bn, showing an increase of 1.03pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs86.911bn, lower by 2.80pc against previous week’s figure of Rs89.406bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,677.796bn, lower by 1.64pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,955.339bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 11.62pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs14,941.672bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,385.678bn, lower by 1.70pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,667.988bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs292.118bn were higher 1.65pc over the previous week’s Rs287.351bn.

Gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,642.710bn, higher by 0.20pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs6,628.831bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs5502.819bn, current week’s figure is higher by 20.71pc.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. It fell by 14.66pc to Rs2,363.894bn against previous week’s Rs2,770.158bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2,025.840bn, current week’s figure is higher by 16.68pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,254.741bn were lower by 15.48pc against previous week’s Rs2,667.915bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs109.153bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs102.243bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs7,800.758bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs8,126.896bn, lower by 4.01pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,525.191bn, current week’s figure is higher by 3.66pc.
