Minorities enjoy rafting in Kabul River

PESHAWAR: Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and Adventure Edge Club organised a thrilling water rafting activity for minority community in the Kabul River on Sunday.

A large number of people including men, women and youth participated in the spectacular boating adventure. Nowshera Deputy Commissioner Khwaja Sikandar Zeeshan was chief guest on the occasion, said a statement.

More than 80 members of Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities participated in the event. The participants raced from Jehangira to old Attock Bridge and covered six kilometres tough and rough distance in 10 boats.

Before embarking the race, the participants were facilitated to experience the best guides, rafting equipment and refreshments.

The transportation, food, first aid kit and other facilities were also provided during the event.

The Rescue-1122, police and personnel of emergency departments were present to provide security and emergency services to the participants of the event.

Talking to media, participants said that it was a good gesture of TCKP and Adventure Edge Club to provide recreational opportunities to marginalised communities of the province. They said that it was an adventurous and thrilling event and they enjoyed it.

They praised provincial government for organising events like rafting, boating, train safari tours and other activities for minority communities. They said that the event provided recreational opportunity to youth and families.

Later, the chief guest gave away prizes and certificates to the participants.

The activity was meant to provide opportunities of entertainment, adventure and eco-friendly tourism to the participants. The tourism department had arranged various events of cultural, religious and adventure tourism. More events of rafting, paragliding, jeep rally and zip-lining and water sports have been planned in the current calendar.
