QWP serves notice on MPA for defection

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party has served a show-cause notice on its disgruntled MPA Ms Meraj Humayun to reply within seven days why she had changed her political loyalty and joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

A statement issued by the party secretariat here on Friday said that the lawmaker had violated the rules of Election Commission of Pakistan by leaving QWP. It was stated that legal action would be taken against the MPA if she failed to give a satisfactory reply.

It is to be mentioned here that three of the party’s MPAs have so far left it. Abrar Hussain Tanoli from Mansehra joined Jamaat-i-Islami and later the QWP sent a reference to the ECP for de-seating him. “The case is with ECP and it would take action against the lawmaker soon,” a source claimed.

MPA Sultan Mohammad Khan from Charsadda reportedly developed contacts with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and also held a meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan before the Senate election in Peshawar. However, in his reply to a show cause notice the MPA still claims his association with QWP.

Another MPA Gohar Zaman had won the election independently from Haripur district and later joined QWP. He recently joined PML-N during a visit of Nawaz Sharif to the area. However, he was neither served a show-cause notice nor his case referred to ECP.
