Thai women golfers lead in gold category

ISLAMABAD: In the third edition of Pakistan Ladies Amateur Golf Championship, which tees off here at the Islamabad Golf Club on Friday, two golfers from Thailand — Sarunchanta Rattanasin and Tanitita Aungusee Wong — are leading in the gold category.

In the opening round on the first day of the three-day championship, Sarun­chanta Rattanasin led in the gold category with a gross score of 67 with six birdies.

She is followed by Tantita Aungusee Wong with a score of 72 gross and with four birdies. Other notable scores for the day were Sonia Ahter of Bangladesh and Pakistan’s Hamna Amjad.

Seven ladies played on Friday over nine holes in the senior lady golfers category and Sarah Mehmood secured first position with Net even par.

Overall on the opening day, 15 ladies participated in the gold category with handicaps up to 15.

Besides locals, two players from Thailand with four handicaps and two from Bangladesh with seven handicaps are participating in the event.

On Saturday, the ladies will continue in round two of the gold category and competitions will also be held for the silver and bronze categories.

A total of 55 ladies will be participating for the title in these categories of handicap 16-24 and 25-36 respectively.
