ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s defence committee on Tuesday said that maps showing Azad Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory should not be used.
The issue came up during a meeting of the committee held to consider budgetary proposals of the defence ministry relating to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the financial year 2018-19.
The committee was told that some versions of Pakistan’s map showed the AJK as a disputed area.
Defence Secretary retired Lt Gen Zamirul Hassan Shah informed the panel that the issue had already been addressed and hard and soft copies of the map of Pakistan had been forwarded to all ministries, divisions and departments, including overseas missions.
The committee asked the government to publicise the latest version of the map of Pakistan on its websites.
The committee recommended that the ministry of planning, development and reform might include 31 new, un-approved and four ongoing projects having an estimated cost of Rs31,683m in the PSDP and allocate the funds for the ongoing and newly-approved schemes to complete the development projects in time.
