Bird flu hits Lahore Zoo

LAHORE: The avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is hitting birds at the Lahore Zoo as two of its macaws died of the viral disease recently.

Lahore Zoo Director Hassan Ali told this reporter that a macaw died on Feb 2 and the other on Jan 26. The zoo, according to its director, was now left with three macaws.

He said the zoo was putting all efforts to save its birds from the viral disease by injecting immunity boosters.

Dr Rizwan, the vet at Lahore Zoo, said macaws remained at the zoo for over 10 years.

He said the changing season always affected the animals and birds the months between January and February while August to September were always critical for birds.

He said the zoo left no stone unturned in treatment of two macaws but they could not survive.
