Sharif, Zehri discuss Senate poll strategy

LAHORE: Former chief minister of Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri called on ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence here on Monday, the first time after he resigned early last month, and discussed him their party’s strategy for the Senate election.

Other PML-N leaders, retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch, Sardar Yaqoob Nasar and Mir Afzal Mandokhel, were also present in the meeting.

Having failed to get support of MPAs belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Mr Zehri had stepped down following the opposition’s no-confidence motion against him in the Balochistan Assembly.

As the PML-N has been in disarray in Balochistan, it is making an effort to get at least one Senator elected in the forthcoming election.

A PML-N leader told Dawn the participants discussed re-organisation of the party in Balochistan and strategy for the Senate polls. “It has been decided in the meeting that efforts should be made to get Mir Afzal Mandokhel elected on a general seat in the Senate election,” he said.
