Minority candidates
THE Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) conducted a test for the post of assistant director for a federal government organisation on Jan 28.
The legislation has allocated a five per cent quota for minority students for government jobs. But there seems to be discrimination in this case, for all candidates in the test were made to attempt at least 10 questions of Islamic studies.
Many of the minority students in schools and colleges have a choice — civics or ethics as a substitute for Islamiat.
The simple solution is to give 10 optional ethics/civics questions to non-Muslims in the questionnaire. Each question in such examinations defines the competence of the candidate.
Therefore, the FPSC should set paper keeping in mind minority candidates as well.
