ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehr­eek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday constituted an anti-corruption and accountability cell to highlight corruption and irregularities it believes the federal and three provincial governments have committed during the past over four years.

According to an official announcement by the party’s central media department, PTI chairman Imran Khan nominated party’s inf­ormation secretary Shafqat Mehmood as head of the cell.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Mehmood said the main job of the newly-created cell would be to expose the corruption of the federal government and the governments of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. He said he would soon constitute cells at the provincial levels.

In reply to a question if the party would also initiate legal proceedings against those found involved in corruption, he said it would be too early to say anything in this regard.
