Rain spell begins today

ISLAMABAD: A fresh wave of clouds has entered the country, bringing rain and snowfall to parts of the north and rain and thunderstorms to Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Rainfall is expected to start today (Sunday) and continue until early morning on Tuesday in the Potohar region, while snowfall is expected in Murree and Galiyat.

Chief Meteorologist Dr Mohammad Hanif said the winter rainfall was delayed by a month and is likely to start in the second week of February. Three to four more spells of rain are expected, and precipitation will be lower in the first half of the month than the latter half.

Rain-thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in the coming days in parts of Khyper Pakhtunkhwa, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, upper Punjab and the Quetta, Zhob, D.G. Khan and Multan divisions.

Near normal precipitation is expected throughout the country this month, the Met Office has said, while the hilly parts of KP and GB may receive slightly above average snow and rainfall. Day and night-time temperatures will increase gradually in February, and average temperatures are expected to be above normal during this month.
