Six injured in Indian shelling

MUZAFFARABAD: Six people, including three women and a policeman, were injured in Indian shelling from across the Line of Control in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Saturday, police said.

The casualties were reported from different villages of Hajira sector in the southern Poonch district, where Indian troops resorted to “intense” shelling after 5pm. The shelling lasted for about two hours, said Basharat Hussain, an official at the Hajira police station.

He told Dawn that Muhammad Irshad (65), his daughter Aliya Irshad (21), Muhammad Latif (50), Iqra Bashir (24), Farzana Kausar (37) and Attique Ahmed (40), a police constable, were injured in the shelling in Madarpur and other villages.

The injured were taken to Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahayan Hospital Rawalakot, he said.
