Two alleged land grabbers arrested

KOHAT: The district administration arrested two alleged land grabbers over resistance to vacate property of the irrigation department during an anti-encroachment drive here on Tuesday.

During the drive, supervised by additional deputy commissioner Sahibzada Najeebullah, illegal houses and markets were demolished on both sides of the irrigation canal.

According to a statement issued here, 55 feet space on one side and 77 feet on other side of the canal was levelled with excavators. It said that illegal constructions on 95 kanals in Jarma, Muslimabad and Sorgul were razed, while encroachments were also removed from 80 kanals in Miangan Colony, Dhal Behzadi and textile mills area. It said that the action would continue till recovery of the irrigation land.

SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar on impact of drug abuse on human health said that the relevant departments have virtually failed to weed out the menace due to lack of public support.

The seminar was organised by Kohat University of Science and Technology in collaboration with the social welfare department and attended by assistant director anti-narcotics force Imran Iqbal Abbasi, vice-chancellor Dr Jameel Ahmed, faculty members and students.

Mr Abbasi and other speakers said that elimination of drug abuse from the society could be made possible with the people’s support to the relevant departments. They said that addicts could be made useful citizens through proper rehabilitation process.
