SC stays execution of three ‘terrorists’

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the execution of three ‘terrorists’ after they challenged their death sentence awarded by the military courts.

A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the appeal.

The convicts Shafqat, Sabir Shah and Mohammad Liaqat through their counsel requested the court to set aside their conviction.

After admitting the appeal for hearing, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the federal government and adjourned further proceedings till a date to be fixed by the registrar office. It also issued a stay order till a decision in this matter.

Military courts had awarded death sentence to Shafqat and Sabir Shah for killing a lawyer and convicted Liaqat for murdering a journalist.
