Action against doctors referring patients to private clinics

LAHORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khwaja Imran Nazir has ordered disciplinary action against five doctors of different public sector hospitals for referring patients to their private facilities without any justification.

Presiding over a meeting of medical superintendents of all the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals at a local hotel on Saturday, the minister asked them to identify black sheep in their ranks who were earning a bad name for the sacred profession.

The minister said data on the patients referred from public sector hospitals to the private ones was being gathered on a monthly basis.

He said strict action would be taken against the doctors found referring patients to their private clinics for financial benefits “without any solid reason”, said the minister.

Khwaja Imran Nazir directed his department’s secretary Ali Jan Khan to take disciplinary action against Dr Ali Imran (THQ Hospital, Burewala), Dr Rubina Hafeez (DHQ Hospital, Bahawalnagar), Dr Khalida Bilal (THQ Hospital, Chishtian), Dr Zeeshan (THQ Hospital, Raiwind) and Dr Urmilla Ratti (DHQ Hospital, Rajanpur) for referring patients to their private set-ups.
