UK-based charity to give scholarships to KP girls

SWABI: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Squeaks Foundation, a UK-based charity organisation, on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide scholarships to the girl students belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The scholarship will cover four-year undergraduate programme and only those students would be entitled who qualify the GIK Institute’s entry test, but due to financial constraints could not pay the fee to acquire higher education.

The foundation provides scholarships in medical and engineering fields to KP female students who demonstrate high academic capability, intellectual curiosity and passion for learning.

Ms Ana Castro, founder trustee of the foundation, expressed her confidence that the number of scholarships and interaction with GIK Institute would increase in future. She said that the foundation would not only support the students financially, but also in any other aspect relevant to their academic and professional performance.

She said that the foundation and Sarmayacar, a venture capital fund launched by one of trustees of the foundation, could have a joint venture to sponsor the GIK Institute scholars in launching productive ideas in the startup world.

GIK Institute Rector Jehangir Bashar lauded the foundation’s initiative and briefed the visiting team about various scholarships and loan schemes available for the students in the institute.

JUI-F MEETING: Central deputy chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Maulana Fazal Ali said on Thursday that the religious parties had forged an electoral alliance, which was ready for the next general elections.

In a meeting here on Thursday, he said that people knew that the religious parties had delivered in the province during their government. He urged the workers to be ready for election because it would be more crucial than the previous ones.

Mr Ali said that unity in the ranks of religious parties was need of the hour. He said that democratic system had been strengthened in the country.
