Media ethics

IT seems the electronic media has forgotten its role. Cheap advertisements are aired and the media even does not hesitate to discuss a person’s private issues in public just for ratings.

For example, the media unnecessarily focussed on reports about Imran Khan’s third marriage, while this went viral on the social media. Almost every news channel broadcast this as ‘breaking news’.

One wonders why media interferes in one’s private life. Though a political figure’s life doesn’t remain secret, media should at least display responsibility when it comes to anyone’s private affairs.

What benefit can the common man get from this news? Is it a big deal if Imran Khan has married or will marry the third time?

There are hundreds of social issues that need media’s attention. But, unfortunately, our electronic media focuses on non-issues to boost TV ratings.
