Kasur tragedy

AS the mother of a beautiful angel like Zainab, I also feel her pain and that of her forever inconsolable mother.

The right to live, to play and to bloom has been taken away from her and unjustly so. What happened to the innocent little Zainab has bruised all those who are feeling her pain.

I assure her that the parents of all Zainabs are lamenting. We are sorry and mourning for all the Zainabs that may have faced a similar ordeal. She would remain forever with us in our thoughts and our prayers.

May all those involved in this despicable act be haunted forever, and may the perpetrators get caught and justice swiftly administered.

ZAINAB will be remembered for long since protests over her murder are larger than usual. I wonder why Kasur, a small town only 40km from the seat of Punjab government, is witnessing so many such incidents.

Serial killers seem to originate in this city. As a pediatrician I condemn this incident with the hope that every parent, government and civil society will find a solution to these heinous crimes and that Zainab’s murderers will be punished.

Even when a doctor examines private parts of a child, he or she is supposed to always explain to the child that it can only done after taking their parents’ consent.

Parents should tell their children that no one, including a doctor, can touch their private parts without the consent and presence of their parents.

THE Punjab chief minister issued a statement after little Zainab’s murder, saying that he would not rest until the criminals had been brought to justice.

I request the chief minister to establish a permanent authority that is empowered to swiftly deal with such matters in the interests of society.
