Protests against Zainab’s murder continue

RAWALPINDI: Protests against the rape and murder of a minor child in Kasur continued on Friday.

Protestors demanded for Zainab’s killer to be arrested and chanted slogans against the police, the government, the Punjab chief minister and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for the way the case has been handled.

One of the large banners they were holding read: “Punish the killers of innocent Zainab immediately.”

Students, traders, politicians, lawyers, paramedics and members of the civil society staged demonstrations at Chungi No.20.

The protest was led by local PPP leaders Raja Ijaz and Raja Iftikhar.

The two leaders urged the government to take steps to end violence against children and said that the murder of Zainab has enraged the whole nation and brought people out on the roads, demanding that the killer be arrested as soon as possible.

SP Saddar Circle Iftikharul Haq and the station house officers of Saddar Bairooni and Rawat made security arrangements for the protests and to keep the road open to traffic.

The Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah also organised a protest demonstration at Liaquat Bagh on Murree Road and residents of Committee Chowk held a protest on the same road as well.
