Chaklala Board

THE present management of Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has done a commendable job by taking notice of an old traffic safety problem by marking an underpass road to facilitate motorcyclists and pillion-riders to cross the railway track safely. However, most motorcyclists still do not benefit from this facility.

I suggest that the warning signboard needs to be erected closer to the road and the height should be lowered to about four feet to attract the attention of motorcyclists.

A small board with an arrow and inscription ‘Motorcycle’ in light reflecting red paint with white background needs to be installed at the point where motorcyclists should turn left for safe crossing.

The distance between the warning board and the arrow board should be about 100 feet. The cat’s-eyes installed to guide motorcyclists need to be extended by a few feet to the point of safe crossing at 90 degrees which has been a safety standard since the 19th century.

I am confident that the CCB would incorporate these minor modifications for the safety of the motorcyclists and pillion-riders.
