Dominant Au strolls to CAS International title

ISLAMABAD: Top seed Annie Au of Hong Kong kept her supremacy intact as she cruised past Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam to win the Chief of Air Staff International Women Squash Championship here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Friday.

Au needed just 31 minutes to see off Subramaniam’s challenge, winning 11-5,11-7,11-1 on a day that saw men’s top seed Marwan El Shorbagy set up an all-Egyptian final with second-seeded Mohamed Abouelghar in the Pakistan Open.

Subramaniam had little answer to Au’s drop shots and powerful forehand as she capitulated against the world number 11 Au who collected a prize of US$25000.

El Shorbagy also enjoyed a stroll on Friday as the world number five raced past compatriot Zahed Mohammed 11-9, 11-4, 11-3 in just 30 minutes. Mohammed provided some resistance to El Shorbagy, ranked 20 places above him, in the first game but was outclassed in the next two games.

It was a different story for Abouelghar though as he battled past Hong Kong’s Leo Au 11-9, 12-14, 11-4, 11-6 in a semi-final clash that lasted nearly an hour and will now face El Shorbagy for the US$50000 prize on Saturday.
