Woman, two sons burnt alive

LAHORE: A woman and her two young sons were burnt alive at their home a room of which ended up in a fire caused by gas heater leakage in Nishat Colony on Friday.

The two other sons of the woman suffered multiple burns in an attempt to rescue the family. Saleem, the head of the family, survived the shocking incident, a police official said. He said the incident took place on Friday morning when the family was in a room of their Nishat Colony residence.

A North Cantt police officer said Saleem alerted police and Rescue 1122 when a fire erupted at his home. He said two families were residing in the double-storey house and the fire erupted in a room of the upper portion. Shakila, her sons 19-year-old Waleed and 22-year-old Sajjad were trapped in the flames which were extinguished by a Rescue 1122 team after two-hour hectic efforts, the official said, adding that the woman and her sons were recovered dead from the room.

Police handed over the bodies to the family after completing legal formalities. The injured were taken to hospital, where they were stated to be out of danger.
