Seats for PG training of doctors enhanced

LAHORE: Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khwaja Salman Rafique says the seats for post-graduate training of doctors have been increased.

Presiding over a meeting held to evolve a strategy for the induction of doctors for postgraduate training for next year, he said 2,500 beds had been increased in the tertiary care health institutions after completion of mega projects in specialized healthcare sector. The number of seats for doctors PG training had also been increased according to the ratio of available beds.

Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah said that previously 4,000 seats were available under a four-year training programme.

“Merit and transparency now prevail in the health sector after reforms and adoption of online central induction policy. Completion of big projects has made it possible to offer 3,500 doctors’ postgraduate training in one year,” said Mr Shah.

BDS RESULTS: Girls clinched the top three positions in the first professional BDS annual examination 2017, according to the results announced by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday.

Mahnoor Zahra of FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry, Lahore, got first position securing 618 out of 700 marks. Saba Nasir of Dental Section of Faisalabad Medical University and Zoha Nasir got second and third positions, securing 598 and 596 marks, respectively.

A total of 930 candidates from 14 affiliated dental colleges appeared in the examinations out of which 609 got through showing a pass percentage of 74.45.

Supplementary examinations will begin on Jan 30, 2018.

CEREMONY: A ceremony was arranged at the Emergency Department of Lahore General Hospital in connection with Christmas.

Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Sabir, Nursing Superintendent Anwar Sultana and other senior doctors also participated in the ceremony during which Christmas cake was cut and senior and junior nurses exchanged gifts.
