Livestock registration

THE Sindh government has devised a novel scheme for collecting additional revenue, and creating new jobs, but at the same time, seemingly, opening another door for corruption.

Recently the Sindh Assembly passed a bill for the registration and identification of livestock. For this, an authority, similar to Nadra, is being established. It would develop computerised database, and the owners have to register the livestock at the time of birth, death and movement within and outside the province. Thus, the cattle and other livestock would be issued identity cards.

In a province where a majority of the people are deprived of basic amenities like water, healthcare and sanitation, the government plan like livestock appears odd.
