Gayle smashes records as Rangpur Riders lift BPL trophy

Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten 146 off 69 balls in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final against Dhaka Dynamites on Tuesday to help his team lift the trophy.

His innings, which helped Rangpur Riders set a 207-run target for the Dynamites, included 18 sixes — the most in a T20 innings. He bettered his own previous record of 17 sixes in an innings, made in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It was also the highest score in an innings by any batsman in the BPL, as well as Gayle's 20th ton — the highest number by any batsman in T20, with the second highest number of centuries in the format standing leagues behind at seven, EspnCricinfo reported.

Gayle has scored at least two centuries every year since 2011, while four of the top five scores in the league have also been scored by him.

Brendon McCullum supported Gayle with an effortless knock worth 51.

Chasing the 207-run target, Dhaka Dynamites could only manage 149 for the loss of nine wickets as Sohag Gazi, Isuru Udana and Nazmul Islam took two wickets each. Zahurul Islam hit a 38-ball half century while skipper Shakib managed 26 runs.

Gayle, who played for Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings in the first and second editions of Pakistan Super League (PSL), was left unpicked in the draft for the third season.
