Army competitors shine

ISLAMABAD: Competitors from Army and Wapda shone on the third day of the National Taekowondo Championship as men’s and women’s Khyrougi events were decided on Monday.

Army won three out of six men’s competitions with Wapda winning two while Balochistan’s Shahzaib recored a surprise victory in the under-54kg finweight.

While Wapda’s Haroon Khan and Mehmood Khan triumphed in the under-58kg flyweight and under-63kg bantamweight respectively, Army’s trio of Ijaz Ahmed, Salman and Mohammad Afnan Shah were victorious in under-68kg featherweight, under-74kg lightweight and under-80kg welterweight.

Army’s dominance extended into the female competition with Suidra Batool winning the under-46kg finweight, Nuber Shah clinching the under-49kg flyweight, while Yamna Siddiqui and Mahnoor triumphed in the under-62kg lightweight and under-67kg welterweight respectively. Wapda’s victories came in under-53kg bantamweight and under-73kg middleweight through Samia Naz and Ghulam Fatima respectively while Zainab of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won the under-57kg.
