Three engineers held in corruption case
GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested on Wednesday three officers of buildings and works departments on corruption charges.
ACE Divisional Director Farid Ahmad said that Buildings Executive Engineer (EXEN) Abdul Ghafoor, Water and Sanitation Agency EXEN Rana Ghulam Mujtaba and sub-engineer Javed Iqbal were arrested for a corruption case related to the construction of a government primary school in Sangey village, Pasrur.A judicial magistrate sent them to jail on judicial remand for 14 days.
The Gujranwala ACE region has arrested 40 officers in one month.
THREE DIE: Three people of a family died while two others were under treatment after eating toxic meal in Kalasaki Ahmad Nager on Wednesday.
Muhammad Saleem and his family fell unconscious after eating the meal. They were taken to the Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital where he and his sons -- Ameer Hamza (18) and Amir Aziz (16) -- died while the condition of his daughter, Humaira, and nephew Imran was stated to be serious.
Ahmad Nager station house officer Sanaullah Dhillon said no family member had approached police but they were looking into matter.
CLERKS: The All Pakistan Clerk Association (APCA) locked down on Wednesday government offices.
APCA Divisional President Tahir Mahmood Bhatti and other office bearers visited various offices and demanded that the government pay group insurance to officials on retirement, utility allowance and house acquisition or their protest would go on.
