‘Untrained drivers major cause of fatal accidents’

KARACHI: Faisal Edhi said on Wednesday that untrained drivers were a major cause of fatal accidents both on highways and in cities.

He was speaking at a road safety programme organised by the Karachi police at DHA City.

Mr Edhi appreciated the role of the Motorway Police as they had established road safety training institutes, which no other law enforcement agency had done for the public.

Drivers’ training was a neglected topic as non-professional drivers’ training schools in the city were producing a breed of untrained drivers, said Mr Edhi.

Karamullah Soomro, SSP of the Motorway Police South-III, said that besides strict enforcement, the Motorway Police were emphasising on drivers’ training to minimise the risk of road traffic accidents. The Motorway Police were meeting all the stakeholders to jointly make efforts for safer roads, he added.

Farhan Ahmad, DSP of the Motorway Police Karachi, said road safety was a priority for them. He also made an interactive presentation consisting of accident videos while mentioning the mistakes leading to such accidents.
