DG environment suspended

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday suspended its director general environment for his alleged failure in stopping cutting of trees and encroachment on the state land.

Hearing a case related to illegal construction and felling of trees in the city and deforestation in the Margalla Hills National Park, the Supreme Court recently directed the civic agency to take action against the director general environment and estate and hold an inquiry against other officials.

“A few days ago, we had suspended two directors and after getting approval from the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), today we also suspended DG Environment Sheikh Suleman,” said Member Administration Yasir Pirzada.

He said the CDA had already started an inquiry to fix responsibility. “The orders of the Supreme Court will be implemented and a compliance report will be submitted to the apex court.”

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is also probing the illegal construction and encroachment in Zone III and the Margalla Hills National Park on the directive of the apex court.
