ETPB ex-secretary remanded in NAB custody

LAHORE: An accountability court on Tuesday allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to have 10-day physical custody of former secretary of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Ameer Khan [allegedly] involved in Rs985 million corruption reference.

The NAB officials produced Khan before the court to seek his physical remand for investigation into the case. A deputy prosecutor of the bureau told the court that the suspect committed misappropriation during his stint as ETPB secretary from 2008 to 2011. He said the suspect had main role in illegal investment of over Rs985m that was made in collaboration with a private company.

The prosecutor further told the court that the suspect developed assets in South Waziristan and Islamabad. However, he said, the suspect went underground in Lahore to avoid his arrest. He asked the court to grant 14-day physical remand of the suspect for the recovery of the plundered money and to complete investigation.

The court, however, allowed 10-day remand of the suspect and directed the NAB to produce him again with progress in the investigation.
