Zia’s protégé calls institutions usurpers, says Khuhro

HYDERABAD: Senior Sindh Minister for Food and Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has mocked former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and said the protégé of Zia is describing institutions as usurpers and is unnecessarily attacking judiciary after having accepted its judgement.

Mr Khuhro, who is also president of PPP Sindh, told journalists at the residence of district PPP president Sagheer Qureshi here on Monday that when Mr Sharif was appearing before accountability court, it meant he had accepted the court’s judgement.

He said that the same Nawaz Sharif who had led a long march for the reinstatement of deposed judges now said he did not trust courts. Everybody understood that judiciary could be made subservient to anyone, he said.

Mr Sharif had great trust in judiciary when the trial in Panama Papers case started and he and his supporters had distributed sweets over formation of Joint Investigation Team by Supreme Court. Even his daughter Maryam Nawaz had celebrated the formation of JIT then, he said.

Mr Khuhro said that if the court had passed judgement in favour of Mr Sharif, it would have been accepted. Surprisingly Mr Sharif, who took others to court, now said that he had no trust in judiciary and the protégé of Zia was describing an institution as usurpers.

He said that Mr Sharif who claimed today that he was not afraid of death or incarceration in prison had sought pardon from Gen Musharraf in 1999 and wept in prison. Musharraf was a scar on politics because he never respected judiciary, he said.

Mr Khuhro said that names of some suspects who were abroad were being put on Exit Control List while some other people’s names were not even added. The National Accountability Bureau should treat everyone equally, he said.

He said that Imran Khan had introduced the tradition of sit-ins to create anarchy but those staging a sit-in in Islamabad were peaceful and PML-N was not ready to use force against them and create another Model Town-like situation for the government.

He said that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had said that Dr Asim Hussain would be given another responsibility in the party on his return. Dr Asim did not say that he lost his position after meeting MQM-P chief Dr Farooq Sattar, he added.
