Czech engineer found dead

LAHORE: A foreigner working on a power plant in Punjab was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel on The Mall early on Thursday.

According to police, the body of Mr Raska, an engineer from Czech Republic, who was working on Bhikki power plant, was found with bleeding from the nose and mouth on the emergency stairs of the hotel’s sixth floor.

He had been staying in the hotel since his arrival in Pakistan on Oct 22 this year and was scheduled to leave for his homeland on Thursday.

Civil Lines Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Raza told Dawn the hotel administration informed the police about sudden death of the foreigner.

He said the experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, homicide unit and officials of other law-enforcement agencies also reached the scene and collected evidences.

The SP said apparently the death was caused by drug overdose.

“A CCTV footage shows Mr Raska leaving room of his colleague Mr Pasek (also from Czech Republic) around 2:05am and his body was spotted at 3:30am,” Mr Raza said.

He said the samples collected by the PFSA and the crime cell had been sent for forensic analysis. The police shifted the body to the city morgue.
