Senior journalist passes away

PESHAWAR: Senior journalist and trade unionist Habibur Rehman passed away after protracted illness here on Monday. He was 75.

His funeral prayer will be offered here on Tuesday, after which his body would be shifted to Rawalpindi for burial. He was the father of Dr Mujeeb Tahir Rehman of the Frontier Education Foundation, Ms Sameena Riaz, Ms Safeena Tanvir, Tehmina Habib and civil judge Beenish Shah.

Habibur Rehman was close associate of Minhaj Barna and Nisar Usmani. He was sent behind bars in Karachi during the Ziaul Haq martial law.

He started his journalistic career in the 1950s with Daily Naqoos, Rawalpindi, and then worked with other national dailies on senior positions. He also remained associated with Radio Pakistan and PTV and hosted current affairs programmes.
