Money Market: Bank borrowings rise by 3.45pc

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended October 27, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs11,777.383 billion after a 0.78 per cent increase over the preceding week’s figure of Rs11,685.493bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,446.971bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 12.73pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs11,692.887bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs11,601.288bn, showing a rise of 0.80pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs84.496bn, higher by 0.34pc against previous week’s figure of Rs84.206bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,696.065bn, higher by 1.17pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,502.670bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 18.20pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs14,126.904bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks was higher by 0.24pc

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,427.481bn, higher by 1.18pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,236.693bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs268.584bn, were higher 0.98pc over the previous week’s Rs.265.977bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks increased in the week under review. It rose by 3.45pc to Rs2,783.256bn against previous week’s Rs2,690.479bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,662.278bn, current week’s figure is higher by 67.44pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,694.624bn were higher by 3.46pc against previous week’s Rs2,604.601bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs88.633bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs85.878bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs8,341.985bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs8,322.375bn, higher by 0.24pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,191.451bn, current week’s figure is higher by 16.0pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs8,270.936bn, higher by 0.18pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs8,256.427bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs.71.049bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs65.948bn.
