Full trust in Navy’s capabilities to defend the nation, says PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said he had complete trust and confidence in the professional capabilities of the Pakistan Navy with regards to defending the country’s maritime frontiers.

During a visit to the naval headquarters on Wednesday, Mr Abbasi said he fully understood the importance of the maritime sector and that it had great economic potential. Pakistan’s progress was dependent on the development of the maritime sector, he added. “It is most reassuring to learn that our navy is fully prepared and geared up to safeguard our maritime interests, defend our sea frontiers and provide security to the Gwadar port and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor,” said the prime minister. “The government will provide its full support and is committed to realising the development plans of the Pakistan Navy to ensure that it remains a balanced and effective force capable of meeting future challenges.”

Earlier, briefings were given to the visiting dignitaries on the maritime security challenges to Pakistan and development of maritime sector and requirement of additional shipyards. Senior officials from relevant ministries also attended the briefings. The prime minister visited the Command Operation Centre where he was briefed on operational activities.

On his arrival at the headquarters, the prime minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and was presented with a guard of honour by a contingent of the navy. Later, he was introduced to the Principal Staff Officers serving at headquarters.
