Woman’s body kept in house for days in Karachi

KARACHI: The body of an 80-year-old woman, believed to have died several days ago, was found in an Askari IV apartment on Wednesday, officials said. But a strange situation emerged when the daughters of the deceased refused to move the body from their residence, saying that their mother was just “ill and could never die”, the officials added.

The situation pushed the law enforcement agency to intervene and move the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for an autopsy despite resistance from the deceased’s daughters after their neighbours came up with a complaint of stench of a decomposed body emitting for the apartment.

Sharea Faisal SHO Ali Hasan told Dawn that 80-year-old Anees Fiza Ali had died apparently of natural causes around five to six days ago as per statement of her neighbours.

However, her two daughters refused to believe that she had died claiming that she was just “ill”. After foul smell started spreading from the home in Askari IV, the residents informed the police who took the body into their custody.

The SHO added that the deceased was living with her two unmarried daughters. Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi, additional police surgeon of the CHK, told Dawn that the woman’s body had been decomposed.
