KARACHI: Workers Model School won the Quetta Gladiators Inter-school T20 Cricket Tournament after defeating FG Public School by 14 runs in the final at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta here the other day.

Batting first, Workers Model were all out for 129 in 20 overs with Abdul Waheed (29), skipper Khan Mohammad (28) and Zahoor Ahmed (20) being the chief run-getters.

Slow left-armer Izzatullah claimed three wickets for 24 runs.

FG Public School, in reply, were dismissed for 115 in 18.1 overs despite a fine knock of 67 (five fours and four sixes) by Mohammad Umair 67.

Off-spinner Kaleemullah was the bowling hero for Workers Model with excellent analysis of 4-24.

Raza-ur-Rahman, president of Press Club Quetta, graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.

The winners’ trophy was received by Khan Mohammad, captain of Workers Model School with Mohammad Umair collecting the runners-up trophy.

Kaleemullah was declared player-of-the-final.

In a brief speech, Raza lauded Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar for playing a sterling role in the promotion of cricket in remote areas of Balochistan.

“Nadeem Omar has definitely played a key role in taking the sport to far-flung areas of Pakistan’s biggest province which had been neglected for a long time. But we are delighted to see Quetta Gladiators doing great things and this school tournament is a fine example of their sincere efforts,” Raza said.

Also present on the occasion were Shariq Haseeb Khan, Salman Tahir, Mohammad Saleem, Bugti Stadium manager Mansoor Ahmed Khan, Hammad Baloch, secretary DCA Quetta and Mohammad Afzal Sulehri.

The tournament saw 28 school teams participating with 26 of them belonging to Quetta and two from Pishin.
