Weather conditions force PIA to cancel 6 flights

KARACHI: Six flights of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were cancelled on Saturday because of poor visibility caused by smog and other weather-related conditions in southern Punjab and upper Sindh region.

A statement issued by the PIA said that some more flights scheduled for Sunday had been cancelled.

Flights cancelled on Saturday included Karachi- Sukkur-Karachi (PK 390 and PK 391); Karachi-Rahim Yar Khan-Karachi (PK 536 and PK 537); Karachi-Bahawalpur and Lahore-Rahim Yar Khan.

Those scheduled for Sunday but cancelled included Karachi-Faisala­bad (PK 341); and Karachi-Moenjodaro-Sukkur (PK 536).

Weather had affected some other flights which got delayed on Saturday while some more were expected to be delayed.

PIA asked passengers to contact on the following numbers 111-786-786 for updates, particularly before leaving for airport to catch a flight.

At least 13 people lost their lives in road accidents blamed on smog in various parts of Punjab on Friday. Poor visibility ruling the plains of Punjab for the past few days had caused the accidents in Layyah, Kasur, Muzaffargarh and Sheikhupura.
