Spelling Bee regional competition ends

LAHORE: The 13th Dawn in Education Spelling Bee regional competition concluded at the Ali Institute of Education on Saturday.

As many as 1,000 schools from across the country participated in the competition -- the largest school event in Pakistan organised under the Dawn in Education programme. The participants were divided into three age groups: 9 to 11, 12 to 14 and 15 to 17.

Mikail Faisal Ejaz of Aitchison College Middle School, Mall Road, Lahore, Vaneeza Salman Mokal of Bloomfield Hall School, 114-Gulberg Road, Lahore and Sania Ayala of Maryam Siddiqa Higher Secondary School, Chenab Nagar, Chiniot got positions in age group 9 to 11.

Aqsa Hassan of Lahore Grammar School, 55-Main Gulberg, Lahore, Zuha Fatima Haider of Learning Alliance International, 32/1 J block, DHA Phase VIII Lahore, Musfirah Amjad of Garrison Academy for Girls, Sarfaraz Raffique Road, Cantt Lahore and Noor Fatima of La Salle Higher Secondary School, Bosan Road, Multan were winners of age group 12 to 14.

Maiha Shehryar of Beacon House School System JT Campus - Girls, 134-M, PIA Housing Society Lahore, Rasmeen Arshad of Allied Schools, Liaquatpur Campus, Rahim Yar Khan and Shahnoor Hassan of Convent of Jesus and Mary 4-Durand Road Lahore were winners of age group 15 to 17.

The pronouncers of the contest were Mr Tanwir Shah and Mr David Purrington, the moderator was Rabeea Salman, while Uzma Khan and Ms Khadija Khan were judges.

The winners and first and second runners-up will participate in the national championship in Lahore on Nov 14.
