Kohat police foil arms smuggling bid

KOHAT: The police recovered arms and ammunition from a car coming from the Frontier Region at the friendship tunnel toll plaza here on Sunday.

SP operations Jameel Akhtar told journalists at a press conference that a team of Muhammad Riaz Shaheed police station was carrying out routine snap checking at the toll plaza.

It signalled a car coming from Darra Adamkhel side to stop. During checking, the police seized weapons from the car. The seizure included 105 pistols and 210 chargers (magazines).

The carrier was identified as Habibur Rehman of Meri Kalli, Darra Adamkhel. A case was registered against him. His first destination was Bannu district from where the consignment was to be ferried to Waziristan Agency.

SP Jameel Akhtar said that during preliminary interrogations the accused confessed to smuggling weapons from Darra Adamkhel to down country several times.
