Hectic campaign in process for stewards’ poll

LAHORE: With only a week to go ,the Lahore Race Club (LRC) election for the year 2017-18 has entered a crucial stage with candidates engaged in hectic campaign to elicit members support in their favour.

When contacted by Dawn about a nine to 10 out of 19 contestants in the field for the 10-member panel evaded question about the prospects. It seems every move is shrouded in complete secrecy.

Never in the history of the LRC such a large number of candidates have put up their candidacy in the run for stewardship.

Candidates, insiders say, are carrying on their election activity through courtesy calls and drawing room meetings. The candidates list l include a shining galaxy of turf personalities.

The candidates are in fray are Tariq Aziz, retired Lt Col (Masud Pervez, Syed Pervez Hussain, Mohsin Jameel Baig, Arbab Moh­ammad Zahoor, Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, Syed Tasvir Hussain, Fawad Ahmed Cheema, Chaudhry Ahmed Saeed, Mohammad Irfan Mannoo, retired colonel Naeem Sarwar, Javed Khalid, Mohammad Kaleem Khan, Chaudhry Moh­ammad Afzal, Abdul Qadir Khan Mamdot, Khawaja Mohammad Arif, Syed Fakhar Imam and Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa.
