‘Trackers in motorbikes’

THIS is apropos your editorial ‘Trackers in motorbikes’ (Oct 16). I fully endorse the view that installing trackers in motorbikes is an ‘ill-considered gimmick’.

In my opinion, the Sindh government should first ensure the issuance of ‘authorised registration plates’ to all vehicles.

CCTV and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras should be the next step as part of the safe city project.

Regarding the irregularity/delays in the issuance of registration plates, the Citizens Trust Against Crime (CTAC) has offered the Sindh government to establish a registration plate manufacturing plant as a voluntary contribution within the central or Malir jail premises. Regretfully, there is no response.

The project will ensure the timely delivery of registration plates and, at the same time, provide income to prisoners.
